Improved Filtering Options

With Ipregistry you can create multiple API keys to manage different concerns and track usage independently but more importantly, you can also define restrictions per API key from the Ipregistry dashboard.

Restrictions are optional but enable:

Controlling what IP addresses can use your API key
Defining what websites origins can use your API key
Rate limiting the number of requests per hour

Until now IP filtering was only supporting IP addresses per entry. You can now enter a CIDR subnet and select whether you want to allow or deny the specific IP addresses or CIDR subnets.

Similarly, you now have the option to choose whether the specified origins are either allowed or denied.

To manage restrictions, click on “API Keys” in the left navigation bar of the Ipregistry dashboard. Then, select “Settings” for the desired API key and apply the changes you want:

Increased Batch endpoint capacity

The Ipregistry batch endpoint allows grouping multiple IP address search requests into a single one. This really speeds up the processing when you have a bulk of IP searches to perform.

The batch endpoint was accepting up to 256 IP addresses per request until recently. Starting today, we’ve increased this limit to 1024.

To give you an idea about how fast and powerful our API is, let’s assume you are sending requests in parallel using 8 threads from a node that has about 40ms latency to our API, then you can resolve 600,000 IP lookups in one minute or less.

Usage Monitoring Improvement

We’ve updated our dashboard with some improvements related to API usage monitoring.

Until now, it was possible to see the number of credits consumed in the last 24 hours and the last 31 days. Starting today, you can also get a month by month usage overview for the last 12 months:

The option is available for the chart displaying your global account usage on the main dashboard page, but also for usage monitoring per API key. This allows you to get a better understanding of your usage over a longer period of time.

Note that we started collecting monthly usage in April, 2021 so if you do not see data prior this date, that’s normal.

Automatic Renewal Improvement

Automatic renewal has been reworked to offer more customization options. Effective Today, you can control under what number of credits a renewal is triggered, what pack of credits to buy, and specify the card to use independently from your previous payments.

Besides, It is no longer required to make a purchase before enabling automatic renewal. However, you need to set up a payment method.

If you enabled automatic renewal in the past, we used information from your last purchase to set the pack of credits and the payment method to use with upcoming renewals. Regarding the renewal threshold, it is set to 10% of the number of credits included in the pack you last bought. For instance, if 700,000 credits were bought with your last payment, your renewal threshold is set to 70,000, meaning that if your number of credits goes below this threshold, then a renewal is triggered.

We suggest looking at the new options and configure them based on your needs. As always, your feedback is welcome!

Note that Enterprise customers are not affected by this change.

Usage Alerts by Email

Starting Today, usage alerts you receive by email before you run out of credits are sent from [email protected]. Make sure this email address is not put to your spam box.

Please also note there is an automatic renewal option you can enable if you pay by cards via Stripe. You just need to enable the option from your dashboard:

Once done, purchase a pack so that Stripe knows what card and pack to use for reloading. We’ll charge your card automatically for the same pack when less than 10,000 credits or 3 days usage are left based on your last hour usage. Obviously, you can cancel at any time.

Billing Improvements

You can now view and download invoices as PDF directly from the Ipregistry dashboard. This is also possible to edit your billing information and to add custom data (e.g. your company ID, name or your VAT ID):

Dashboard Enhancements

Here are the enhancements that have been deployed:

API keys are now hidden by default.
You can download receipts for payments made with cards.
A few bugs affecting slow connections have been fixed.
All buttons are disabled when an action is in progress.

Uniform region code format

Region/subdivision codes returned in Ipregistry data sets and API (field location.region.code) are now all based on the ISO 3166-2 standard.

Incorrect Email Reports

Some of you may have received an email reporting the wrong number of weekly or monthly request calls to our API. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Be reassured, the issue is now fixed and it was only affecting email reports: your dashboard is showing the right numbers and your balance was not affected by this glitch.

Error Code for Bad Inputs

It has been reported that inputting an invalid request body value for the batch lookup endpoint (using the POST method) was returning an HTTP 500 error. This was not impacting the service but confusing users.

We have introduced a new error code BAD_REQUEST that maps to the corresponding HTTP 400 status code. Any invalid request value returns a response with this new error code.
